III. W THEREAS many recognizances have been eftreated into his Preamble. An act for continuing certain laws therein mentioned relating to British fail cloth, and to the duties payable on foreign fail cloth, and to the allowance upon the exportation of British made gunpowder, and for giving further encouragement for the importation of naval ftores from the British colonies in America.

HEREAS the laws herein after-mentioned are found to be very useful and beneficial, and are near expiring; may it therefore please your Majefty, that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's moft excellent majefty, by and with the advice and consent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and A&t 9 Geo. II. Commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, That an act made in the ninth year of the reign of his late majesty King George the Second, intituled, An act for further encouraging and regulating the manufacture of Britith fail cloth, and for the more effectual fecuring the duties now payable on foreign fail cloth imported into this kingdom, which was to continue in force from the twenty fourth day of June, one thoufand feven hundred and thirty fix, for the term of five years, and from thence to the end of the then next feffion of parliament; and which, by feveral fubfequent acts made in the thirteenth, twenty fourth, and thirty firft, years of his faid Majefty's reign, was further continued until the twenty ninth day of September, one thousand seven hundred and fixty four, and from thence to the end of the then next feffion of parliament; fhall be, and the fame is hereby further continued from the expiration thereof, until the twenty ninth day of September, one thoufand seven hundred and feventy one, and from thence to the end of the then next feffion of parliament.

An act to continue feveral laws for the better regulating of pilots for the conducting of ships and vessels from Dover, Deal, and Isle of Thanet, up the rivers of Thames and Medway; relating to the landing of rum or fpirits of the British Jugar plantations before the duties of excife are paid thereon; and to the further punishment of perfons going armed or disguised, in defiance of the laws of customs or excife; and to the relief of the officers of the customs in informations upon feizures; and for granting a liberty to carry fugars of the growth, produce, or manufacture, of any of his Majefty's fugar colonies, directly into foreign parts, in fhips built in Great Britain, and navigated according to law; and for punishing perfons who shall damage or destroy any banks, flood gates, fluices, or other works, belonging to the rivers and streams made navigable by act of parliament.

V. And whereas the laws now in being are not fufficient for the preservation of the banks, flood-gates, fluices, and other works, belonging to rivers and ftreams made navigable by act of parliament, and for the maintaining the navigation of fuch rivers and ftreams; be it therefore enacted by the authority a- Perfons who forefaid, That from and after the paffing of this act, if any perfhall damage fon or perfons fhall wilfully or malicioully break, throw down, flood-gates, damage, or deftroy, any banks, flood-gates, fluices, or other or other works, or open or draw up any flood-gate or flood-gates, or do works belongany other wilful hurt or mischief to any fuch navigation, fo as ing to rivers, to obftruct, hinder, or prevent, the carrying on, compleating, vigable by act fupporting, or maintaining, fuch navigation; every such person of parliament, or perfons fhall be adjudged guilty of felony; and the court be- fhall be adfore whom fuch perfon or perfons fhall be tried and convicted, judged guilty of felony, fhall and hereby have power and authority to order fuch perfon and be tranfor perfons to be tranfported for feven years.
