The original endowment was a
sum of 6002, cash and house in
Size Lane.

In 1611 the Company purchased a house in Fleet Street for 9147. (of
which Jones' 6007. formed a part).

The house in Size Lane (subsequently three) was sold in 1861, and the
purchase money invested in 32,2361. 28. 2d. 3 per cent.

A new scheme was, on the Company's application, formulated in 1871
by the Charity Commissioners, by which 9,000l. was to be applied to the
erection of a church and parsonage, a sum of 150l. to be set aside for an
endowment of the parsonage, 1,500l. to be given towards the completion
of All Saints Church, Hatcham, and 4,000l. towards the purchase of a
site for a church at Hoxton, and the residue, after payment of 400%. per
annum to the present lecturer (to be decreased to 1507. on the appoint-
ment of his successors) was to be devoted to founding preacherships in
poor and populous parishes, the population to be not less than 7,000,
and his emoluments from fixed sources not to exceed 3007. per annum.
The church has not been built, the 9,000l. being found insufficient to
build a church and parsonage of sufficient accommodation, application
has been made to sanction a further outlay, but the matter is now under
consideration.

These scholarships appear to

Company ceased to nominate. In 1775 the Corporation of Chester
ceased to nominate. The Company have increased each exhibition to
10., and paid since 1822, with the exception of a small sum in hand
belonging to the Chester nomination and retained at their request.

To the Merchant Taylors' Company (or some
other company should they decline the
trust.)

To purchase one or more rectories or parson-
ages impropriate cne-third of the yearly
profits thereof to be reserved as an accumu-
lating fund until 2000. had been ac-
cumulated, and thence forward one-third of
the yearly profits of each rectory were to be
set aside to accumulate a like sum to be
I laid out in like manner for ever.
An
annnity of 31. 68. 8d. to Christ's Hospital, to
whom accounts were to be annually rendered.

The Merchant Taylors' Com-
pany having refused the trust;
this Company filed a Bill against
Weld's executors, and ultimately
the sum of 20007. was paid over
to them with 1007. left for per-
forming the trust.

Accounts were rendered to
Christ's Hospital till 1678. In 1702 an inquisition was taken and the
Commissioners decreed that the Company should lay out 4000l. within a
year of the service of the writ of execution in purchasing rectories under
the trusts of the will. This not having been done the governors of
Christ's Hospital filed a Bill against the Company, and it was decreed
that on the Company laying out 1000l. they should be discharged from
claims touching the charity and all arrears thereof, that the Company
should answer interest at 2 per cent. on any money in their hands from
Michaelmas, 1707. The Company and Christ's Hospital to have the al-
ternate right of nomination to the livings under the trust.
