SURVEY LETTER

U.S. SENATE,

COMMITTEE ON LABOR AND PUBLIC WELFARE,

SUBCOMMITTEE ON PROBLEMS OF THE AGED AND AGING,

October 18, 1960.

As one of the staff projects of the Senate Subcommittee on Problems of the Aged and Aging, we are attempting to compile a complete, upto-date inventory of activities in the field of aging undertaken by voluntary and public service organizations of all kinds. Many of the groups interested in the field of aging have prepared compilations or directories of the kinds of activities being carried on by their State and local affiliates in individual communities throughout the country. If you have prepared such a directory, I would appreciate your sending two copies to me. If no such published directory is available, perhaps you could send me an informal listing with the following information on each local activity:

Name of State: Name of affiliate and the project carried on.
Name of city: Name and title of person in charge.
Classification of the activity such as:

Education

Professional training
Special work situations
Vocational rehabilitation
Employment counseling
Activity and day centers
Camping

Other recreation

Residential housing

Institutional housing
Home placement

Homemaker and housekeeper service
Friendly visitors

Counseling service, casework
Other

We hope to compile this staff publication in the very near future and would appreciate immensely a prompt response. We thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

PAT MCNAMARA,

Chairman, Subcommittee on Problems of the Aged and Aging.
