CALL FOR SECOND ANNUAL DEPARTMENT CONVENTION

In accordance with the instructions of the Department Executive Committee, I, Edward L. Logan, Commander of the Department of Massachusetts, The American Legion, do hereby call the Second Annual Convention of the Department of Massachusetts, The American Legion, to be opened at the Springfield Auditorium, Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 27, 1920, at 10 A.M.

PURPOSE.

To elect delegates and alternates to the National Convention to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sept. 27, 28 and 29, 1920.

To elect one member and one alternate to the National Executive Committee to represent Massachusetts, to hold office for one year from the time of the National Convention immediately following their election.

To elect officers of the Department of Massachusetts for the ensuing year, viz.: Commander, a First, Second and Third Vice-Commander, Adjutant, Treasurer, Chaplain and Historian.

To elect ten Department Executive Committee members, one of whom shall be a woman elected at large, for the ensuing year.

To transact such other business as may come before this Convention.

REPRESENTATION.

In this Convention representation shall be by Posts. Each Post shall be entitled to one delegate. For each one hundred paid-up members and any major fraction of one hundred paid-up members at midnight, July 26, 1920 (thirty days prior to Department Convention), each Post shall be entitled to one additional delegate.

The vote of each Post shall be equal to the total number of delegates present and voting.

POST NOTICE TO MEMBERS.

Not later than August 12, all Post commanders must give notice in writing to each member of their respective Posts of the date, time and place selected for the meeting of the Post for the election of delegates and alternates, and of the number of delegates and alternates to which such Post is entitled in the Department Convention.

Post commanders will insure that all members of their Posts are given opportunity to participate in the selection of delegates, and that their Posts, in proportion to their membership, are fully represented in the Department Convention.

Only paid-up members are entitled to elect delegates and have a voice in the conduct of the affairs of the Post. A man shall be held to be a paid-up member when $1.25, representing the combined national and Department per capita tax for the year 1920, has been received at Department Headquarters.
