MANN, Dean of the New York State College of Agriculture and of the Agricultural Experiment Stations, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York: Dear Sir: I have the honor to transmit to you the following report of the various activities of the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station for the year ended June 30, 1924. The transfer, on July 1, 1923, of the administration of this Station to Cornell University, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 852, Laws of New York for 1923, and under the conditions and arrangements which were described in detail in the Forty-Second Annual Report, has eliminated the necessity for the continuation of the publication of annual reports of the Station separately from the reports of the other state enterprises which are now under your administrative supervision. In fact, it is now possible and desirable to consider all of the research and experimental work in agricultural science and practice which is in progress in the several agencies which are connected with the State College of Agriculture as a research unit proceeding under a single coordinated program, and I hope that you will so treat the matter in your annual report as Dean of the College of Agriculture. On the other hand, it is highly desirable to continue the practice, which has been heretofore required by law during the forty-two years of separate existence of the Station, of printing a separate annual report of its activities in order that this may be available to bind or otherwise combine with the bulletins and circulars which are published during the year to furnish a complete review of the activities of the Station for the fiscal year. I, therefore, respectfully recommend that this report be printed 10 separately as the Forty-Third Annual Report of the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. The several bulletins, circulars, and journal articles which have been written by members of the staff and published during the year, which are listed in the final pages of this report, indicate the progress which has been made on such of the research projects of the Station as have been brought to the point of definite conclusions. But there are many other investigations which are actively in progress which do not come to the point of formal publication in any given year, as well as other enterprises, such as official inspection service, standardization of testing glass-ware, etc., which occupy a considerable proportion of the time and energies of the staff during the year, which are not elsewhere reviewed. It is the purpose of this report, therefore, to present a general review of the administrative, research, experimental, and regulatory activities of the Station for the year. EXPENDITURES FOR GENERAL MAINTENANCE DURING THE YEAR The following is a summarized statement of the expenditures for various phases of Station maintenance during the year. Payments of these expenditures were made by the Treasurer of Cornell University, as proper vouchers were presented to him, with monthly reimbursements from the State Treasurer from funds available thru the several appropriations as indicated below. Full details of these transactions appear in the report of the Treasurer of Cornell University for the year 1923-1924. 1.
