The materials in this Congressional Quarterly
Background book are drawn from two principal
sources. The discussion of housing programs and
the chronology of legislation are adapted from "Con-
gress and the Nation," a 2,000-page book reviewing
the important issues, legislative and political events
of the postwar years, published by CQ in 1965. Cov-
erage of the Housing Act of 1965 and the creation of
the Department of Housing and Urban Development
was taken from material prepared for the 1965 CQ
Almanac.
