September 14. Ended the Seffions at the Old Baily, where 14 Men and Woman receiv'd Sentence of Death.

At this Seflions one Panton, a Weaver in Southwark, was found guilty of a Mifdemeanour, in uttering a large Parcel of light Guineas; for which Offence he was fin'd 200l. and fentenc'd to remain two Years in Prifon; and 125 Guineas that he had diminish'd in Weight, and paid to Mr. Eyles, a Banker in Lombard Street, were order'd to be broke to Pieces in Prefence of the Lord Mayor, and to remain in the faid Mr. Eyles's Hands 'till the Offender had paid his Fine.

William Redmayne, the Printer, withdrew his former Plea of Not Guilty, and pleaded Guilty to the Indictment against him for printing the Book of Laurence Howell, Clerk, entitled, The Cafe of Schifm in the Church of England truly stated; upon which he was committed to Newgate, and receiv'd Sentence to remain a Prisoner five Years, to pay a Fine of 500l. and to find Sureties for his Good Behaviour during Life.

At the fame Seffions the notorious Impoftor William Fuller, was found guilty of two Indictments; one of them was for defrauding Richard Jones, a Victualler in Grubftreet, of eighteen Pounds five Shillings, on Pretence of helping him to an Office of 60l. a Year in the Tower, of which Place he pretended to the said Jones that he was Lieutenant-Governor, and likewise Warden of the Mint : The other Indictment was for cheating Henry Parry, a Draw. er, of 401. on Pretence of procuring him a Land-Waiter's Place in the Port of London; and the better to carry on this Fraud, pretending to be one of the Commiffioners of the Customs; for which Crimes he was fin'd 501. and order'd to remain two Years in Prison.

Henry Walker, the Poulterer in Clare-Market, was indicted for robbing on the Highway, but none appearing to profecure him, he was acquitted.

September 15. Dy'd Richard Taylor, a famous independent Teacher.

September 17. The Countess of Rochford brought to Bed of a Son, call'd the Lord Tunbridge.

About this Time came Advice, that the Earl of Clinearty, of the Kingdom of Ireland, dy'd lately at Hamburgh.

Sept. 18. Colin Campbell, Efq; laid the firft Stone of a New House to be built for the Master of the Rolls for ever, at the Rolls-Office in Chancery-Lane. On the faid Stone was laid a large caft Plate, with this Infcription: Georgius Rex fundavit, A. D. 1717. Jofephus Fekyl Eques, Sacrorum Scriniorum Magifter. The King gave 5000l. towards the rebuilding of this House,

Sept. 22. Dy'd Sir Ralph Ashton of Lancashire, Bart. Col. Lucas appointed Colonel of the Regiment of Foot, late Alexender's.

Lord Hinchinbroke made Colonel of the Regiment of Foot late Lucas's.

Sept. 26. Dr. Laughton made Prebendary of Worcester, in the Room of Dr. Edward Chandler promoted to the See of Lichfield and Coventry.

A Fire broke out in Threadneedle-fireet which burnt down the Sun Tavern and Sun Coffee-Houfe, and much damag'd feveral other Houses.

Francis Heat, whipt from Charing-Crofs to the Upper End of the Hay-Market, in Purfuance of the Sentence he receiv'd at the Seffions at Hicks's Hall, where he was convicted of fpeaking the following traiterous Words in St. James's Park, viz. God Save King James the Third, and fend him a long and profperous Reign. He was likewife fin'd ten Groats, and to fuffer a Month's Imprifonment. Mr. Popplewell made Chaplain to Col. Armfrong's Regiment of Foot.

Capt. John Keck, who had been miffing from the 17th of this Month,on which Day he receiv'd 3ool. at the Bank, was found murder'd in the Fields near Ratcliffe High-way.

Dr. Grey, Chaplain in Ordinary to his Majefty, made Prebend and Refidentiary of Chichester, and Master of the Hofpital of St. Mary's: All which Preferments had been held in Commendam by Dr. Edmund Gibson, Lord Bishop of Lincoln, from the Time of his Promotion to that See.

Col. Henry Luttrell affaflinated between the Hours of 19 and 11 at Night in the City of Dublin, as he was going Home in a Hackney-Chair, by a Perfon unknown, who fir'd a Piftol, or Gun loaded with Ball into the faid Chair, and wounded the faid Colonel, who dy'd the next Day of his Wounds.

Oct. 25. The Common-Council of London unanimously voted Thanks to Sir James Bateman, Lord Mayor of that City, for his prudent and impartial Administration.

Oct. 26. John Raymond, a Mate in the East-India Ship Borneo, lately arriv'd, committed to Newgate by the Lord Chief Juftice Parker, for the Murder of Mr. John Gregg, by driving him with a Cane over-board into the Sea, where he was drown'd.
