bookshelves: realistic-fiction

Diary of a Wimpy kid is another book in the ether of American literature currently. It is a series based on a boy Greg and his adventures growing up with an older brother, younger brother, interesting friends and his exploits in school. It is realistic fiction because Greg is an imaginary character in an imaginary setting but the problems and situations are realistic. This book is part of a series. I would use it as a circle read or as an option in readers workshop. Each book in the series could be read and compared in literature circles. I would use this book with 3-6 grade. It could be used in conjunction with writing diaries of their own.
