Is there any way to write a review on any of the Harry Potter books without doing it injustice? Nearly nobody attempts to create a full review on this series because of 1) its popularity, 2) its huge fanbase and 3) its awesomeness in general. And neither will I do so. The first book was fantastic, although I read it probably ten years too late in my life. The second book was not so fantastic, but still a great book. And the third one ... completely blew my mind.

I wanted to write a review on this book; I even started a checklist to keep track of what I wanted to add here. But the further I delved into the stories about the Prisoner of Azkaban, the more did I realize that the only things I was going to say were 'X is awesome', 'Y rocks' and 'Z simply has to be the winner'. The only aspect which might be criticized about this book might be the fact that some characters like Voldemort, Malfoy or, on the other hand, Harry, Hermione or Ron are relatively black or white, evil or good. But I don't mind. Because. Those. Characters. Are. Amazing. Hagrid and Lupin are my new favorites after reading this book. And I want more of Hedwig, because - owls!

In contrast to the two previous books, the pace is so wonderfully matching in this book. Just at the right time before the descriptions of the Hogwarts school year (all of them contributing to the entire plot) might turn too extensive, the story climbs up to its climax and concludes within one hundred pages of incredible tension. Logical relevations, long-desired confrontations and a lot of surprises will accompany you during your journey with Harry and his friends, resulting in the convergence of several different plotlines which were established during the course of the novel.

Most of the people I know have read this book, but if you happen to be one of the few exceptions, then go read it. Maybe you fear it because of its fantasy elements? I've never been a fan of fantasy either, but this book series changed my opinion. Maybe you fear it because of its popularity? Don't be afraid. The hype is completely justified.

My reviews in the Harry Potter series:

1) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Go to review
2) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Go to review

Strona po stronie This is actually the first HP book that I've ever read :). I think that everybody should start with this one :). Fun fact, it's been a long time, but I remember that before reading it, I had been asked to guess the plot and had said "It sounds like something about pirates" :D.

Well, I'm all for reading a series in the correct order, so I think that everybody should start with the first one. :P
Your plot guess is awesome! Would be interesting though, a school which trains young adults to become pirates. :D

At that time I had not known the theme at all ;), so no schools in my guess ;).

Anu Woohoo! I'm so glad you liked it! :D
Oh, and boy is the hype justified.

Yes! I can't wait to get into book 4. But, *sigh*, that will already cover the first half of the entire series. :/ Good thing that the last few books are such doorstoppers.

Lily Yay!

Lupin is my favorite too. :D And I have a newfound appreciation for Hagrid after my most recent re-read.

I was so irritated by Lupin at the beginning, when I considered him to be a boring sleepyhead. He did nothing but sleep when he first appeared. :D But then he had several awesome moments, and when I realized (view spoiler), he became my favorite of this book. Go Lupin!

I like Hagrid already since the first book. He can be so funny and always succeeds to conjure a smile on my face.

Sonja⁷ I'm glad you loved it! Lupin is one of my favourite Harry Potter characters, together with Snape, Neville and Luna (she'll make her first appearance in the fifth book, keep an eye out for her ;), she rocks!)

Anne My best characters apart from Dumbledore: Luna Lovegood(you won't meet her until soon), Ron Weasley, Neville, Professor Trelawney, Professor Snape, McGonagall, Hagrid, Fred and George, Malfoy(said in the tiniest voice ever) and Harry Potter himself. You couldn't have said it better! Your review is everything from 'X' to 'Z'

I've been reading good news everywhere on goodreads. I'm going to sleep beautifully tonight.

Camie I wanted to buy this box set for my daughters boyfriend for Christmas. He reads a lot of non - fiction , but she said he would probably not read them. I loved the entire series , read it with my kids who are now adults and soon my Grandkids. I think he should read it before his daughter does. They are just essential !!

Apatt Great review Councillor. Harry Potter books are extremely readable and immersive.

Why don't you say "everybody"? :P
I guess my favorites apart from Lupin and Hagrid are Snape, Ron, McGonagall and ... well, of course Harry. But I like them all, of course. ;) Dudley and Vernon are the only ones I really despise. May someone please transform them into gnats or something like this?

Sounds really good. I hope you slept well! ;)

That's fantastic! I hope your daughter's boyfriend and, of course, your grandkids will enjoy this series too, but I'm confident they well.

They're heartstoppers as well! :P
Also Sirius Black. <3
Lupin is my god. To say I worship him would be an understatement.

Sirius! I can't believe I have really allowed J.K. Rowling to let me fall into her trap. :/ I was so surprised to realize that he is actually no dangerous criminal.

Wow, thank you, Medini. :) I really enjoy getting into these books now that everyone else has read them. And I think it's quite a refreshing opinion, since absolutely no one I know who is of my age hasn't read these books. :D

Medini ENJOY this experience :) ;)

Aj the Ravenous Reader I have just finished this yesterday, Fabian and I completely agree with everything you said. Hagrid and Lupin are also a few of my favorites in the book but I think Hermione will be a constant favorite of mine.^^ It's completely impressive how every part of the novel is like part of a huge puzzle. Every part fits one another perfectly. Great review, my friend.^^

With this series, I'm capable of spreading the love!!!! :p
And I wanted to also show you this, TADA: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. You're so fresh and new to the Potter world, but maybe you've seen or heard news about the movie? The movie trailer? The movie's coming out in November, if I'm not mistaken. I'm so excited I could pass out. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Oh God air..

J.K Rowling is amazing. The book is a glossary of monsters/beasts. All the ones you'll meet and not meet in the books that are present in the Potter world. I just thought you might be interested, it has nothing to with me and my need to gush about it.

YES! I'm so glad you enjoyed it as well. I never thought the plot would be that twisted and complex, but it turned out to be even more interesting than I initially thought it would be. Thank you. :)

I have already added the book some time ago, to be honest, right after watching the trailer. :D I will definitely give Rowling's other works a chance after finishing the HP series. :)
And don't you forget to breathe, Anne! It would be me who's going to throw daggers at you then. :P
