Loading... Bone 07 Ghost Circles 1ST Edition (edition 2001)by Jeff SmithMy blog post about this book is at this link. Bone: Ghost Circles is the 7th book of the Bone Series. It is a graphic novel written by Jeff Smith. it starts with Wendell and Fone travelling through devasting vallies and illusionary wastelands. They need the help of Thorn to get through these tough obstacles, and with her help they may be able to defeat the Lord of the Locusts. I did not enjoy this book. I could not follow the pictures enough to enjoy the story. I believe that it is intended for male adolescents who enjoy comic strips. I did not see any issues that just stuck out in my opinion. It is not a book that has multiple issues that a classroom could discuss. This book relates to any other comic strip such as the ones in newspapers. There could be a larger issues discussed on whether fantasy style grpahic novels should be taught inside the classroom. Teaching Ideas: Allow students to write their own graphic novel Discuss Real vs Fantasy This book is something that visual learners will enjoy reading. It will allow them to explore books the way they enjoy them. I would not refer this book to any teachers, but for children who love colors, fantasy, and comics. I suppose it is a sign of Jeff Smith's skill at developing his fictional world and its characters that I have read each volume of Bone in fewer sittings than the last, even though their length and complexity remains consistent. The end of the previous volume Old Man's Cave made it seem as if the heroes had had a major victory, but Ghost Circles begins with almost overwhelming setbacks, and of all the Bone collections so far this one is easily the darkest in mood. Even a few scenes with the usually comical Ted the Bug are quite grave. Strap yourself down and get ready to jone Fone Bone and his cousins ina wild adventure. There stands Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone in the middle of the battle against rat creatures and humans. As they fight Grandma Ben and Thorn are still trying to find a way to destroy Grandma Ben's evil twin. Recommended for Graphic Novel lovers because cool comics like this should be shown. This is the seventh book in the nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. This book really takes the story into high gear and is very dark. It was an absolutely wonderful read! A dormant volcano has unleashed ash all over the Valley turning the Valley into a dark and lifeless place. The Bones, Gran'ma Ben, and Thorn continue on their quest to get Thorn to Atheia. The Lord of Locusts is released and running rampant throughout the land. Lucius is gravely wounded and trying to help the Villagers take a stand against the dreaded rat creatures. Things are looking very grim for our heroes. This was probably the darkest and most desperate of the Bone books. Everyone is fighting for their lives and things are getting darker and darker (literally, given the ash cover). That is not to say there still isn't some time for fun. The Bone cousins lend much needed humor to the story every now and again. As our heroes journey to Atheia they much navigate around deadly Ghost Circles that only Thorn can see; this was a very interesting and creative twist to the the story. This book really moved the story along though and leaves me desperately wanting to know what will happen in the final two books. The drawing was consistent with previous book, which is to say excellent. Overall an excellent addition to this series. I really enjoyed this book and it is definitely pushing forward to the climax of this series. Can't wait to read what happens next in Treasure Hunters! The valley is being taken over by the rat creatures and the lord of the locusts. The Bones, Gran 'ma Ben and Thorn, travel through mysterious ghost circles to the old city of the royal family, Atheia. The ghost circles are invisible except to Thorn who must guide everyone. If anyone steps inside the ghost circle they will die. The valley is being taken over by the rat creatures and the lord of the locusts. The Bones, Gran'ma and Thorn, encounter near-death experiences, but eventually come within a two days journey to the gates of Atheia. Danger still lies ahead, but they are getting closer as the story ends. This is not my favorite kind of book, but children enjoy all the pictures and it has a plot which they have to follow. Teachers can use this book to encourage young readers to read. This book was difficult for me to get in to. Possibly it would be easier if I had read the earlier books. Because it was a graphic novel it lacked all the extra descriptive words I have come to love while reading. It did not allow for me to create my own picture in my mind of what was happening. The pictures are there for you. However the pictures are very well drawn and the story line (once I got into it) seemed like it would be interesting. Bone continues to grow darker and more urgent in Ghost Circles. As the war ravages the valley, Thorn, Fone, and the gang must travel south, ever avoiding the deadly ghost circles. When it seems like all is lost, they are seeking a tiny hope for final victory. Bone continues to be fun, but now it is also tense and really interesting. |
