** spoiler alert ** I found this book in a second hand bookshop and was immediately drawn to it's beautiful cover. I am so glad I bought it because I greatly enjoyed reading about Matt, Kate, the Aurora, and their journeys. I knew nothing of the author nor his Silver Wing Trilogy before I began reading Airborn, but if that series is as delightful as this book I must read it soon.

I love historical fiction in general. I love pretending and pondering what-if. I love great imagination and completely new creatures. I love heroic tales. And I must admit to being much in love with the vernacular utilized within different periods of time. I enjoy the differences, those subtle and those screaming with change. I adored reading the polite conversations between these characters.

I also love strong female characters. Women who are not afraid to stand up for themselves, be strong, think boldly, and exhibit bravery are the type of ladies I admire. I would be very interested to read an alternate version of this story specifically from Kate's perspective. I can't say that I think she's a fully developed character, but I'm all the more intrigued for that.

As for Matt, he's a lovely sort of fellow. I like that although he's consistent throughout the book, there were moments where I was so irritated with him that I nearly hijacked his narrative with my own. I would love to learn more about his home-life while his father worked aboard the Aurora. His mother and sisters are mentioned when expected to be, yet without saying much about them at all. I mean, other than the couple of gifts he gives them early on.

I love the Aurora's Captain. I would like to know more about him. I'd be interested to know more about how he spends his leisure time. I don't know why, but I picture him sitting at his desk pondering a lot...

This book reads rather quickly. It's full of interesting information about the ship and her crew. I feel as though I could never be bored reading about these characters and places. A part of me keeps thinking that this would make a pretty cool movie, given the right screenwriter and spectacular director. But another part of me is afraid to have this beautiful ship and her crew toyed with and given over unto someone else's interpretation. Though I really would love to see the goldbeater's skin shimmer in the sunlight.
