This was what I would consider the climax of the entire series! This is where you finally learn key information about who and what is occurring throughout the other volumes to date. Jeff Smith masterfully wove the story together for this moment and the reveal here is shocking, but not without being fathomable. The artwork of Jeff Smith stays consistent with what the previous volumes have included. The story progresses in a fashion that is congruent with what has come before in the series. This series is probably the best graphic novel series that I have read in all my years of reading comics. This particular volume really showcases how Jeff Smith knew where he wanted to go with the series and kept his eye on that particular prize. We discover more of the "lore" of the series or in another words we discover more of the "fantasy" element than the child-like nature of the series that the other volumes have had. This one gives us more information of the backbone and does it in a manner that keeps right on track with everything that has come before it. I am glad that I have continued reading this particular series because it keeps getting better. ( )

There's a bit more important backstory, but most is forward motion of plot and intensity. I couldn't put it down. ( )

The Lord of the Locusts is rising and the Valley is endangered. The Bones are true to form, Grandma shows why she was the Queen, and Briar's reward for serving the dark side is shown.

It's interesting that this series is so highly recommended for kids since there's philosophical and mythical underpinnings that I'm not fully grasping, but I suppose the surface story alone is so high quality and full of action, adventure, and humor that it can be appreciated on many levels. ( )

It is about a group of friends that go on an adventure. They are brave. They have to sleep in a tree. Fone bone has a crush on the princess. Rock Jaw is trying to kill them. They have to pass through a field of ghost circles. Fone bone goes into a ghost circle.

I like this book because it is full of adventure and comedy to keep you reading along with the pictures in there.

Old Man's Cave moves the story of the Bone series along at a galloping pace. Although I don't see it noted here, one of the earlier collections I read showed this series grouped into trilogies, and there does seem to be a significant multi-volume conclusion in this sixth book. By its end, there has been a resolution of much of the central conflict, but there is an intimation of more to come.

Smith's art continues to be effective, and his storytelling engaging. There are hardly any new characters introduced in this sequence, but there are some major revelations about the ones established earlier in the series. The reader learns by stages exactly who the evil Lord of Locusts is, and why he is interested in Phoney Bone, not to mention surprising revelations about the Hooded One.

The bones figure out where grand ma Ben always goes at night. ( )

In this volume, the war is on and the human population of the valley retreats to Old Man's Cave. Thorn has other ideas, however, and Fone and Smiley Bone join her, only to have their plans changed by Rock Jaw. Finally, the reason that Phoney Bone is thought to have magic powers is revealed, and it is hilarious. ( )

This is the sixth book in the wonderful nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. I have been loving this series and this was a wonderful continuation of it. Gma Ben and Thorn (along with all of our favorites) are back and events are clipping along at a fast pace.

The book starts out with Gma Ben and Lucius at Old Man's Cave, where the village has taken shelter. Fone Bone and Smiley Bone are still lost in the woods trying to make their way to the burning village. Seemingly random events from previous books are woven more tightly together in this one.

I liked this book better than the previous ones. Thorn and Gma Ben are back and things are picking up pace. We finally learn more about how the Lord of the Locusts is tied to Thorn and Gma Ben. The Bones, especially Fone Bone, are starting to play a bigger role in determining the fate of the Valley.

There is still a lot of humor in here and the illustration remains very well-done (consistent with previous volumes). The story is getting more epic though, and it was hard to put this book down. I raced through it in under an hour. It is appropriate for readers of all ages.

Overall a solid installment in this series; I was happy to have my favorite characters back. I look forward to reading Volume 7, Ghost Circles. If you are a fan of epic fantasy or just fantasy in general, you have to pick up this graphic novel series and give it a read through! I also recommend The Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi; that one is more serious but has a great fantasy story with fantastic illustration. ( )

For whatever reason, despite being one of the thicker volumes in the series, the details of this book always escape me when I think back. The climax is wonderful, but everything leading up to it is the most tedious part of the series for me. Realize that this just means it's great rather than totally awesome.

This volume really gets the story moving along. Many questions are answered but the story has many things yet to discuss. Great entertainment. Now, I have to go read it again. ( )

Book 5 was definitely a transition between the books that established the world and the situation and the war. For that reason, it was weaker than the others. But here, in Book 6, the series jumps back into the thick of things, and it is quite good.

All the little elements that were introduced before now become critical. We discover the identity of the Hooded One only just in time for the entire situation to change on us. Thorn is becoming more and more important, and Fone is struggling to remain a part of this issue.

A fun read. I'm anxious to see how the rest of the war turns out. ( )
