Powerful and compelling stuff ... if only I could put it into practice, life would be so much simpler and better.
The Power of Now, is the idea that if remove time from your life, and focus on the now, you are much more likely to be content. If you focus on the present moment at all times, then you can accept it, change it or enjoy it ... to worry about things that happened in the past or may happen in the future is not a good way to spend your life. The book explains how to live in the now ... I have tried the technique and it works but needs practice. You start by doing it for a few seconds and then expand upon the number of seconds, minutes and hours that you live in the present moment.
This book explains why the Power of Now is important and why is can and does solve every problem you've ever had or thought you had.
The Power of Now is based a specific Buddhist principle or teaching. Having read the Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama, I found similarities between the two books, not only in its teachings but also the writing format, which is in question and answer format. I found this format quite irritating after a while and don't think it was really required for The Power of Now.
Fortunately, Eckhart Tolle, has written a number of other books about The Power of Now, which are more concise, contain ideas that are more accessible and readable.
I have also read the, "Practising The Power of Now", which I think is better than the Power of Now.
