The book is kind of vague, and this is partially the writer's aim. Based on him, the basis of our sufferings is that everything has to be identified for the mind. Every word has to be limited a specific meaning, and this narrows down our freedom . the mind is not always our best friend; the mind controls us with its compulsivity and it would do anything to not lose this control over the self. He doesn't mean that the mind is an evil instrument and using it is unhealthy, however, he suggests being wise and determined to give it a rest and live for the moment by observing the state of consciousness which we only experience in the Now will erase the suffering which the mind have gotten us to become accustomed to. This was the main idea of the book, and I do advise you to read it. :)
