The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

It's possible that reading "A New Earth" colored my read of "The Power of Now." I *loved* "A New Earth." It was concisely written and made sense.
The format of this book, done in the question and answer, didn't drive things home as much. A lot of the same points are covered, but it feels... off. I love the information presented, just didn't like the format. The material is brilliant and if it resonates with you can really set off a whole new way of looking at life and get you to finding peace.
I don't know that I would have walked away with the understanding I got from "A New Earth" if I'd read this one first.
The book is about Being - consciousness and presence. Living in this moment, and not a moment past or a moment into the future. Both the past and future are mental constructions that drive us into anxiety, depression, unhappiness, etc. Our resistance to what IS causes our suffering. By being present and surrendering/accepting what is, we can find peace and joy - which go beyond happiness.
Tolle answers a lot of questions about what consciousness is, how to find it, the benefits of finding it, what death means, how illness and injury can be viewed from presence. For someone with chronic illness and injury, I appreciated this perspective. When I feel pain, I accept it. And it lessens.
It's a good read, but if you're looking to do one or the other, read "A New Earth."
