Oprah said this book can "transform your thinking...The result? More joy, right now!"

For one, she is not completely wrong.

Eckhart Tolle's philosophy and the main theme of his book The Power of Now, that living in the past and future is harmful. To truly live, to truly experience happiness is accomplished by living in the present.

Sound familiar?

It's not exactly groundbreaking. In facts, Tolle's philosophy is thousands of years old and can be found in Buddhism, or more specifically Yoga sutras.

What Tolle has down is watered down Eastern philosophy and Westernized it.

Evertthing from Witnessing and un coloring thoughts in Yoga Sutras 1.5-1.11 to Practice and non-attachment in Yoga Sutras 1.12-1.16 is here but repackaged and resold.

There are going to be many people who read the book and feel its lacking something, that something it's is origin and spiritual roots in Yoga. Others may appreciate the spiritual gems of the book, which to have its roots in Yoga.

The material and subject matter in Power of Now maybe new to some and old to others. It's an interesting contemporary attempt at revisiting and repackaging Eastern thought. Use it as supplementary material as well as continuing reading the Yoga sutras.
