The book’s information merges the foundations of Christianity, Buddhism and Sufism whose philosophies are all rooted in suspending the ego - most religions as we know them just have different words or expressions to explain the same thing - “sin” “suffering” “samsara” “nirvana” “eternal life” etc. etc. So, it draws from more than just these religions (references are made to science and nature too) so it can sell itself as “secular” for those who are religious about being non-religious. Either way, it’s a good book in that it calls to awareness - transiency.
I would highly suggest reading and not listening to the audio book as the audio book had sounds to transition from one section to the other, sounds to me that bordered on “feedback” or “noise” which I found to be very irritating These noises could have contributed at times to my perception that the book was (from time to time) taking on a “new age” flare that tends to “romanticize” or idealize religious forms (i.e. eastern vs western thought). It takes more than just one book to really experience and be prepared to receive the message this book has and not to get caught up in seeking through it some type of escape or false inspiration. In all, the book was for me a great review and recall of what I had learned and explored when I was younger.
